Envisioned as an alternative to photobooths, Haikuists’ new personalized poetry service for luxury events aims to provide guests with a unique keepsake. For corporate events, haikus can also be custom-branded with a logo or a monogram printed on the back of each haiku card.
The new service includes two poets equipped with a vintage manual typewriter and a sign that says ‘Free Haikus’. The poets will position themselves in a high-traffic area of the event venue to attract and engage more guests.
Haikuists’ poets will take requests from everyone at the party, without any restrictions on the topics. The poets will then create a custom haiku for each guest within 30 to 90 seconds. The group believes that haikus are a photobooth alternative for the soul. As such, its haikus are typewritten on a typewriter and given to guests as a memento. These cards can be framed on the wall or hung on the fridge.
The group explains that its goal is to inspire everyone at the event to be creative and express themselves through poetry.
“A haiku is a tiny poem whose purpose is to capture the spirit or the essence of something,” said a spokesperson. “It’s like a photograph but in words,” they added.
About Haikuists
The group started in 2012 when co-founders Erick and Daniel were working on a different project, interviewing entrepreneurs in Brooklyn. They set up a Free Haiku Stand and soon discovered that people were eager to engage with them in exchange for a personalized haiku. Since then, Haikuists have worked at various private and corporate events. Its clients include Google, SpaceX, and Barnes & Noble.
